ON FILE is based on a short story, by the same author as
the screenplay.
Above all, ON FILE is a story about ordinary people, far
removed from great historical gestures or events. People caught
in the bizarre, solitary dramas of everyday life.
There is a great hunger and need for these small human stories
that play themselves out somewhere between tragedy and comedy.
Stories that could happen to anyone, as long as they have
a body, an ID card, some hope for happiness in life and an
equal share of wounds and scars.
ON FILE is about a middle-class woman, who, when she goes
to a lab to pick up the biopsy results for a cancerous tumour
she has had removed, is kidnapped by a young prison escapee
who is fleeing from his old partners in crime.
Both are threatened with death, though for completely different
reasons. Both have their file numbers. His can be used to
look up his criminal record at any police station. Hers can
be used to look up the entire history of her illness at any
hospital.
From the meeting of these two unusual characters, the plot
unfolds in a growing spiral, revisiting the memories and hopes
of each as they move through the devastating present.
