Nexus Cinema is the producer of Vera by Sergio Toledo (Silver Bear in Berlin, Best Actress in 1987), of the documentary Carandiru.doc, directed by Rita Buzzar and showed by GNT (TV channel paid in Brazil) in prime time, one of the largest audiences of the time, Olga by Jayme Monjardim based on the book by Fernando Morais, Brazilian candidate for an Oscar in 2004, and a box office success, with over three million viewers in cinemas and with over one hundred thousand DVDs sold, and also the successful international co-production Budapest, based on the novel by Chico Buarque. Nexus is currently producing the film Time and the Wind, a new undertaking with director Jayme Monjardim, based on the epic work of celebrated Brazilian writer Érico Veríssimo, Forgetiminoti, to be directed by Roberto Moreira, Duetto, a Brazilian-Italian co-production, to be directed by Marcos Jorge and Madame Durocher, a French-Brazilian co-production.

Is filmmaking always the making of a lie? This documentary, shot during the filming of Hector Babenco’s feature length Carandiru, addresses questions about what is real and what is fiction in interviews with several of the film’s extras, who were the relatives and friends of inmates killed in the massacre during the 1992 invasion.

VERA
Based on real facts, the film tells the story of Vera, an inmate at a youth detention centre, who struggles to build her personality and identity in a hostile world, amidst prejudice towards her homosexuality. The film earned actress Ana Beatriz Nogueira the prize for Best Actress at the Berlin Festival.
